Thank
you all for such a successful opening weekend of The Nutcracker! It
seems only yesterday that we started rehearsals, and now all of a sudden
we're on stage
in front of enthusiastic audiences waiting to be transported to the
Stahlbaum's Christmas party, the Land of the Snowflakes, and the Land of
Sweets. You've all done wonderfully well this past week in the tech
and dress rehearsals, and I was very pleased and
proud of all of you in these first four performances.
But of course, I have some notes! :)
I've been able to talk with the Party Scene children before each show
about specific things to remember, so I just want to reinforce that in
general, as we move on through the rest of the performances, how
important it is to stay focused on your choreography
and instructions. Everyone's acting has been great, so please keep that
up! I've seen some wonderful faces and expressions in the party from
several of you, and I really appreciate your thinking constantly about
the story, and reacting to Drosslemeier, your
parents, and the other children.
Battle Scene has also been good:
The first "crash" could be much sharper from all soldiers.
Lines 1, 2, and 3: What's happening is that the soldier on the
inside of the line (closest to center) tends to run too far forward when
you come out of the castle. The soldier on the other end of the line
can't stay in line because they run into the
bed! So please watch out that you don't come too far forward--- no
further than the back edge of the bed.
I hope you all get some much-needed and deserved rest over the next two days, and I'll see you on Wednesday!
