HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The Nutcracker shirts have arrived!  I will be in the office Thursday and Friday from 10:00 - 4:00, if you would like to stop by and pick yours up.  You may also pick up shirts when you are at the studio next week.

If you missed the deadline or changed your mind about ordering a shirt, I will be placing a second order on Friday, January 10th.  Order forms will be at the SOBT reception desk or under "Pages".

HAPPY HOLIDAYS - NOTE from GAVIN

Congratulations, everyone, on an absolutely splendid 2013 OBT Nutcracker season!  We finished this run with a record low number of illnesses, injuries, or unforeseen problems, but that's less important than the beautiful, spirited performances you delivered on stage.

This season posed challenges that I knew would require extra dedication and commitment from everyone involved, and I couldn't be more gratified by how far above and beyond the call of duty so many people went.  From my wonderful students to their sacrificing families to our new school and company directors, and perhaps most of all, our amazing Children's Coordinator, Shari!, support and cooperation have been constant and plentiful.  And that's the reason why we not only "made it" through this performance run, but triumphed.

Many dancers had to do every performance, frequently multiple roles per show, and sometimes danced more than one place in a single dance.  I know how hard that was.  Your enthusiasm and positive spirits were so much appreciated.

And the performances were excellent!  (Even though I gave notes....)  I was truly pleased and proud of every one, and every one of YOU.  I hope you are all feeling the same way!  You should be very proud of your hard work and dedication.  Being in The Nutcracker at this level of professionalism as a child is an experience that changed MY life, and I hope you also take away lessons, memories, and impressions that will be with you forever.

THANK YOU!
Have a happy, healthy, and restful break, and I wish everyone the happiest of New Years!

Miscellaneous Notes:

POLICHINELLES - CLEAN UP AFTER YOURSELVES!  ALL wipes must be thrown in the garbage and ALL bobby pins put back in the boxes.  It is not the responsibility of the wardrobe crew to clean up after you!

I noticed tonight the wipes are gone, you will need to bring some from home and bring them down to the fourth floor for the quick change.  Then put the used wipes in the garbage.  (Where do the used wipes go?)

Photos went well tonight.  We will continue tomorrow; if you have a role that you are only in on Tuesday, please let me know.  I have posted the order form under pages, so you can copy and print or pick one up from the stage door chaperone.

Orders are due Tuesday, Dec 24th; photos will be handed out in January.

Great job tonight - Let's do it again tomorrow!

PHOTOS and T-SHIRTS

Hello All,

A brief catch up on the shirts....  The expected delivery date has been moved to the 27th - I apologize if you were hoping to have it by Christmas.  Also, we had to make a few slight changes in the shirt design.  The idea is the same, but the girl will be solid and the swirls are lines rather than dots.  It was too detailed as submitted; it is still a fun new design!

Photos will be taken in costume during tonight's performance and continuing through tomorrow.  I will try to catch everyone in their various costumes, however with all of the quick changes I may miss a few.   If you need an order form, please ask the stage door chaperone.  Order forms with payment are due by Tuesday, Dec. 24th.

You are all doing a wonderful job!  We are now heading into the final push.  Let's continue to work together and support each other as we WOW the audience!

SOLDIER REHEARSAL TOMORROW, SUNDAY AFTER WARM UPS

We will have a soldier rehearsal tomorrow Sunday, December 21st immediately following the warm up class.

We need the the Tuesday, December 24th cast of soldiers ONLY.  We do not need sentry, trumpeter, bunny, Prince or Marie.

Soldiers are called tomorrow at 1:00, please come 15 min early, so we can get to the rehearsal hall for a 1:00 rehearsal.  Party Girls should come to class and rehearsal with your hair in rollers or a hair net.  Your makeup call time will be slightly later, so please do not worry.

See you in the morning!

NOTES from Gavin from Saturday, Dec 21st:

Matinee:

Battle Scene was much better!  Excellent job with staying in line coming forward out of the castle, and with sharply moving into the "crash" positions.

Act 2:

All Polis and CCs, run faster to get onstage for the bows.  The bows were better, but it would be good if your running was faster.

Evening show:

Party Scene was good, but I'm starting to see you react to things BEFORE they happen!  Don't rush your reaction to any thing that happens- let someone tap you on the shoulder before you turn around, for example.

Remember to look up at the top of the tree as you walk to it in the "zombie walks".

Boys galloping is good, but be on the music!

At the end of the Grandfather's Dance, after you yawn, really wave goodbye to the Grandparents, as if you are truly sorry to say good night.

Battle:

The cannon needs to get to center, Sentry and Trumpeter.  Move it all the way forward to the pink "X" and make sure it's angled slightly towards the audience.

NOTES from Gavin - Friday Evening Performance:

Party Scene was better tonight.  Thank you for listening and applying the corrections I gave you!  Your spacing was much better for the Boys' diagonal lines, the candy box, and the hobby horse tug-of-war.

I would still like the Party Boys to look a little less serious during their first march, though-- this is at the beginning of Party Scene, when Herr Stahlbaum leads you from sitting in front of the tree into your huddle, and then your march downstage (before the gallops).  It's okay to smile a little during your march forward!

Also better with leaving more space around Marie and Fritz after he grabs the Nutcracker from her. The scene looks so much better when there is less of a crowd around them.
