Children's Performance Casting

This is a very exciting time; you have all been "patiently" awaiting the performance casting ;-)  I am happy to post it for your perusal.  Please review the list and let us know if you find any discrepancies.  No student should dance more than two roles in a performance with only one role in Act II.  You can use this list to purchase tickets, however all casting is SUBJECT TO CHANGE, so purchase your tickets from the box office in the event you need to exchange them.  I will hand out hard copies along with a daily production schedule by Saturday.  Congratulations to all!

SOBT and Rehearsal Conflicts Continued

The SOBT policy is that all rehearsals for company shows take precedence over SOBT classes. Once the rehearsal has ended, students should walk directly to their class and wait QUIETLY outside.  If time allows the students will be invited in to participate for the remainder of the class time.

I will be at the studio for all rehearsals if there are any questions.

SOBT and Rehearsal Conflicts

We realize the Company rehearsals may conflict with your SOBT class schedule.  As we combine the company with the students, this is unavoidable.  The school staff have all been notified.  Students should attend rehearsal first!  I will find out if it is acceptable to join your class late, or if you will need to skip class altogether. Check back on that one!

Soldier Footwear

It is very important that the soldiers have black shoes with WHITE elastic.  If you were able to find a pair at the swap or if you need to purchase a pair, be sure to put white elastic on them!

I have two pairs of small white tights - free for the trying!

NUTCRACKER WARDROBE INFORMATION

It's time to pull out the Nutcracker Packets that were handed out the week after auditions!  Please read through ALL of the information, paying very close attention to the various wardrobe pieces that you are responsible for.  Some of the items are harder to find and may need to be ordered, so please begin the process TODAY!

TWO adjustments:
Marie and Party Girls:  Nude body liner is preferred.
Maids:  Wardrobe will provide black tights.  If you have your own character shoes, use them, otherwise see Belinda right away.

I will have extra copies of the packet at all rehearsals.  Stop by and pick one up if you have misplaced yours.

NUTCRACKER Ticket Policy for SOBT Students

SOBT Students are eligible for the following ticket discounts:
 
·         Repertory performances: 25% off on single tickets for Holiday Revue, Giselle and Chromatic Quartet in any seating area.
 
·         Nutcracker: 50% off in seating areas 1-4.
 
·         Who can purchase tickets? the students themselves or the parents/guardians listed on their record.
 
·         How to purchase: Call or visit the BOX OFFICE  and identify yourself as an SOBT student, the box office will locate your record to verify your eligibility. Please be sure to mention SOBT specifically, as there is also a student discount for the general public that is not the same as our internal discount. Handling charges apply to phone orders, $4 per ticket.  (Discounts do not apply through ticketmaster.)
 
·         What are the limitations? Not valid on previous purchases. Cannot be combined with other offers. Tickets are EXCHANGEABLE but non-refundable. New this year: no limit on # of tickets that can be purchased at the SOBT rate.

A Note From Our Chaperone Coordinator - Venus Zaron

Dear Nutcracker Chaperones,

Thank you for volunteering to work on Oregon Ballet Theatre’s 2011 production of The Nutcracker.    I am the Chaperone Coordinator, this year, and will do my best to use everyone who expressed interest in helping.  From our collective availability, I need to create a schedule that covers all the hours that our children are called to the theatre.  No small task!  Boy, am I grateful to follow two coordinators extraordinaire, Gail Schroeder and Liana Winett.

The Children’s Cast includes Party Boys & Girls, Battle, Angels, Polichinelles, Candy Canes, and Chinese Tea.  Volunteers represent parents in all these groups – though of course not in equal number – so please do not be surprised or alarmed if your Chaperone shift is for a role other than what your child/ren dances.  I will work very hard to only call you to the theatre when your child is called, of course, and also to schedule you for the same act in which your child performs.  Please bring any snafus to my attention right away and I will re-schedule as necessary.  Generally speaking, chaperones are needed 30 mins. before the call-time for the group they are covering, and might need to stay as late as 15 mins. past the group’s release time, if parents are running late for pick-up.  This will make more sense to new chaperones as we begin to post the schedule.

The need for chaperones begins with Tech Week, when we move into the theatre.  You will find these dates noted on our Overview Schedule as Wed., Dec. 7 - Fri., Dec. 9.   Technical and Dress rehearsals require a heavy chaperone schedule, since often both casts are called at the same time.    As soon as we receive more detail about those dates, I will get the first round of chaperone schedules out to you all.  After those long, late, Tech days, the show opens on Dec. 10 and we will chaperone throughout the run of 14 performances, closing on December 24. 

While in the theatre, our tasks are to ensure the children’s safety, orderly conduct, timely arrival in make-up and wardrobe, prompt response to their stage calls, and a safe return from the stage to wardrobe, and then back up to the 5th floor dressing room.  Usually, this will require 10-14 chaperones per rehearsal or performance.  We might see a lot of each other!  We have rigorous safety protocol, which includes wearing Chaperone Badges, making sure we always know where each child in our group is, and helping the children to remember to check-in and out, as they enter and leave the theatre. 

To build the schedule, I am working from your availability as indicated on the Chaperone Questionnaires collected earlier this fall.  If you know of additional dates you are not available, or your schedule/contact info has changed, please let me know.  Shari has copies of your questionnaires at the studio, so if you want to take a look at how you noted your availability, just let her know.  As soon as casting is released, likely at the end of Thanksgiving Weekend, I can start to fit the puzzle together.  I know this is also when parents will purchase tickets to see their children perform, so please think of emailing me your updated availability as that occurs.  My contact information follows.

Rehearsal Schedule for Sunday, November 27

HAVE A GREAT AND GRATEFUL THANKSGIVING - SEE YOU ON SUNDAY!

Calling ALL Old Soldier's Shoes!

One of our committed parents has generously offered to collect soldier's shoes from those of you who have had soldier's in past years.  The shoes are black with white or pink elastic.  If you have a pair of black leather ballet shoes sitting around in your closet can you please bring them to the studio so we can fit them to this year's soldiers!
This Saturday, she will come in at 3:45 to sort the shoes into sizes, so please try and have them at the studio by that time.  The children have a break at 4:15 and we will try to fit as many as possible. For the dancers who do not have a rehearsal after the battle scene, we can continue fitting once their rehearsal is over.
